About me
" Anyway, fairytales do not use the term “unrealisable”. They support humans’ abilities that do not recognise the impossible: if the hero wants to achieve something he will find a way and the right people to help him get there. The power of “possible” is in him, not on the outside."

My name is Akos Futo. I am 35 years old and I have been living in Cambridge, UK with my wife and two beautiful daughters since 2012. I graduated from Shakespeare Theatre Academy, Hungary as an actor then later I did a degree in puppetry.
I have been in puppetry for 13 years. I became a member of Kaboca Puppet Theatre in Veszprem, Hungary at the age of 22.
The Kaboca Puppet Theatre is a state- maintained still active puppet theatre that do not only perform in regional schools and nurseries but in several cities around Hungary. They also perform in cultural institutes and at festivals.
I have been on several international tours with them, we toured in Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Norway, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Portugal and France.
We have managed to bring home prizes from prestigious festivals on many occasions. One of them was the prize for best performance and best directorial concept in Thumbelina we played in 2009 in Slupsk, Poland at the Eurofest Festival. I played every part in this play.
Another significant prize was won by a play called Ha Dede which my colleague Erzsi Kiss and myself played. We took home the prize for Best Song, Most Imaginative Performance and Best Communication with the Audience in 2011 at the Materinka Festival in Liberec, Czech Republic. We also performed this play at the Luxembourg Philharmonic.
Over the 10 years I spent in the theatre I have gained a vast amount of experience, I learnt the ins and outs of the profession from the making of the puppets through the technical part of sound systems to puppetry.
I have learnt how to ride a monocycle, walk on stilts and I can juggle.
I have had the opportunity to use all the puppetry techniques and I was lucky enough to be able to try myself as a director with my own play; Kukackalad (Worm adventure). Not only did I direct it but I also wrote the entire play including the songs in it.
Besides the state puppet theatre I created an individual group too with two of my colleagues. It was called the Ramazuri Puppet Theatre and I had been a part of it for 6 years. At Ramazuri we did not only perform shows for kids, we offered a lot more complex experience. We created a fun children’s kingdom where the stage, play area, adventure scene and musical workshop could all be found. We also held a very successful Puppetry Camp for kids.
Afterwards in 2013 I was given a challenging opportunity with a colleague of mine. The Europalanta Association asked us to create an educational puppet show teaching kids about environmental protection. This was shown to schools and nurseries within Hungary.
Making music, singing and producing music is not far from me either. I started singing in plays in a school musical studio when I was 14. I learnt the play the guitar at that age, but I play other instruments as well. I started playing the guitar and singing in bands at the age of 16. In a Hungarian national talent show my band and I as their singer came first in the Best song and Best singing category.
Currently I teach drama to pupils at the Hungarian School in Cambridge.
I moved to Cambridge as I was drawn to the British cultural life and I had always wanted to try myself in this environment. I do hope I will manage to win the hearts of the British audiences and we can experience happy and fun times together.
My aim is to make performances that are not only entertaining but morally educational as well and broadcast moral values to kids.
I believe we can sow seeds of thoughts in kids via fairytales and puppets. Thoughts that they will be able to use and they will benefit from in their later lives. It is a very important thing for us adults to do.
